Transpiration

In this unit, students will learn about the process of transpiration in plants and how plant design is related to the adaptations of the plant's environment. Students will learn how transpiration affects the environment, how changes in the climate can impact the rate of transpiration, and how transpiration is related to drought. This unit allows students to explore environmental processes, engage in design activities, and make real-world connections between transpiration and their local environment.

Hands-on Activities:

  1. Leaf and stomata exploration through nature journaling
  2. Build a Leaf STEM Challenge (focused on environmental adaptations for a given habitat)
  3. Exploration of DRI’s Climate Engine
  4. Weather demonstration stations and schoolyard data collection
  5. Soil moisture lab
