Space Hub
Space Hub (All Ages)
Go through the engineering design with Casey! Design, build, test and redesign a geodesic dome against two different environmental factors - heavy load and earthquakes.
STEM Kits are uniquely designed to support formal and informal use. They can be implemented as quick lessons between units, in afterschool programming, clubs and many other areas! Each kit includes step-by-step lesson plans, all necessary materials for 150 participants and can be completed in a day, or easily be expanded into longer lessons. They are accessible for all ages, offer three interactive stations, career connections, and engage participants in STEM topics.
Blueprint
Participants will test several shapes, joints, material types and using that information sketch a blue-print to plan for their geodesic dome type Space Hub.
Building a Space Hub
Participants will use the blueprint, or plan, they created at the previous station to execute the “make a model” step of the Engineering Design Process to build a Space Hub using limited materials.
Test / Redesign
Participants will use the Engineering Design Process to test then redesign their model against two different environmental factors- heavy load and earthquakes.
