Energy Expedition

Energy Expedition (All Ages) Learn all about energy with Casey! This kit includes activities highlighting the importance of energy in our daily lives, as well as how the choice between renewable and nonrenewable energy will impact our future.  STEM Kits are uniquely designed to support formal and informal use. They can be implemented as quick lessons between units, in afterschool programming, science clubs, libraries and many other areas! Each kit includes step-by-step lesson plans, all necessary materials for 150 participants and can be completed in a day, or easily be expanded into longer lessons. They are accessible for all ages, offer three interactive stations, career connections, and engage participants in STEM topics. *This STEM kit is provided FREE to NV Educators through funding provided by NV Energy and Southwest Gas as part of the Energy Smart Program at DRI. Forms of Energy Participants explore the different forms of energy while engaging in a sorting activity that allows them to explore objects and images that represent each form of energy. At the end of the activity, participants should understand a basic definition of "energy", know some of the forms energy can take and how we use energy in our communities.  Energy and You Participants will learn to identify the connection between chemical, mechanical and electrical energy and how energy transfer can occur between these three forms with a hands-on activity. Using what they've learned, they will employ their mathematical skills to calculate how much energy they can absorb from different foods.  Power Nevada! Participants explore the benefits and drawbacks of the various ways the State of Nevada generates electricity. Using their new knowledge, the students will then weigh the pros and cons of energy sources to make informed decisions on the future of energy generation in Nevada.
