In this unit, students will be learning about the composition of ecosystems, including the many living and nonliving factors within them and their importance to one another. Not only will this unit expose students to early ecological concepts, but it will also support the development of foundational literacy skills, such as phonological awareness, vocabulary, print knowledge, and oral language abilities through various hands-on, play-based activities.

Hands-on Activities:

  • Nature walk followed by nature collage
  • Acting out of living and nonliving factors through dramatic play
  • Exploratory stations
  • Sorting and guessing games
  • Ecology themed read-alouds
